Static Dissipation Cord

#0, by dude6935, 19 March 2011 05:20 PM

I found a static dissipation cord that looks like it would suit our needs in an H2 ship.

http://www.fibraplex.com/IonCord.htm

"The cord does not need to touch the surface to neutralize the static. It only needs to be connected to an earth ground (typically the metal frame of a machine) and placed close to where there is evidence of a static problem (ideally within several inches). Since ION CORD is a very thin and light weight string it can be mounted almost anywhere on a machine with ease. "

Question, does that actually have to be grounded to work? How could it be grounded in the air?

Electrically speaking, it has to be grounded. That doesn't mean it must necessarily touch the surface of the earth. Others who know more about electricity can probably explain how grounding works in aircraft.

If it's an ion generator it's causing a draw of electrons, the same thing the ground does.   Am I right?

A bad truth is better than a good lie.
